Summer Thunder: Taiko in the Garden

Enjoy an energetic afternoon of live Japanese cultural performances at Kubota Garden. Bring your family, friends and a picnic! There will also be a raffle!

Parking: Parking at the Garden is available but limited. There is additional street parking on Renton Ave S. As with all public parks, we encourage you to leave valuables at home. If you must bring them, store them out of sight before you reach the Garden. Due to limited parking we encourage carpooling or using public transportation.

Public Transportation: Take the 106 bus to the Renton Ave S & 55th Ave S stop, just a short walk from the Garden. You can also take the 1 Line light rail to Rainier Beach Station, then transfer to the 106 bus or use Metro Flex for a quick ride to the garden. Use the King County Metro trip planner to find the best route from where you're coming from.

Schedule and what to expect: The event will begin at 12:00 p.m. with a dance performance procession starting at the Garden entrance. The procession will make its way through the Garden and conclude at the Terrace Overlook at 1:00 p.m. The taiko performances will then begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Terrace. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blanket. Volunteers will be present at the event to answer any questions. Be sure to also check out the raffle table for themed prizes! Raffle tickets will be on sale at the event ($5 for one ticket, $20 for five tickets.)

Accessibility: A shuttle service is available from the Garden's Entry Plaza to the Terrace from 12:30pm - 1pm and from the Terrace back to the Entry Plaza from 2:30pm - 3:30pm. If you plan on utilizing this shuttle service, please email sophia@kubotagarden.org.
